JPMorgan raises holdings in AnsteelPublished: 19 Feb 2009 18:54:21 PSTFeb. 19, 2009 (China Knowledge) – JPMorgan Chase&Co has raised its shareholding in Angang Steel Company Ltd (Ansteel)<000898><347>, a subsidiary of Anshan Iron and Steel Group Corp (Ansteel Group) to 11.16% from 10.96% on Feb. 12, according to the bourse operator Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEx)<388>.On Feb. 12, JPMorgan Chase acquired 2.152 million H-shares in Ansteel at an average price of HK$8.57 apiece. Earlier, on Feb. 5, JPMorgan Chase bought 2.158 million H-shares in Ansteel for HK$7.51 apiece on average.Meanwhile, Ansteel plans to issue no more than RMB 10 billion in corporate bonds to replenish working capital and to repay bank loans. China, UK, Switzerland to Cooperate on Climate ProjectPublished: 26 Sep 2009 18:16:32 PSTChina, the United Kingdom (UK) and Switzerland jointly launched a project Thursday with an investment of $6.75 million, to study the impact of climate change on China and help China better handle climate change.The project,  »Adapting to Climate Change in China » (ACCC), will be implemented this year and finish in 2012, China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said.The UK Department for International Development (DFID), the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation will provide financial support and technical assistance for the project.Mark Lowcock, director general of UK DFID, said climate change was an urgent issue and adapting to it was one way to deal with it. The general aim of the reform is to improve access to basic health services for all and to make health insurance coverage and health care more affordable. The plan highlights five key priorities:Universal InsuranceTo expand health insurance coverage to everyone, China intends to scale up its main health insurance programs and bolster the Medical Assistance program that subsidizes health care premiums and costs for the very poor. The enrollment target is set at 90% by 2011. The main advantage to universal health insurance coverage will be to reduce the significant financial risk posed by high medical costs. Statistics from the Ministry of Health show that personal spending on medical services has doubled from between 1980 and 2007.Prescription Drugs The existing health care system encourages providers to overprescribe drugs to cover operating costs, which has pushed up prices for patients. The new plan does away with these inefficiencies and eliminates the profit margin for prescription drugs by controlling prices for a list of essential medicines through a national drug system. Basic Medical Service DeliveryPrimary care in general will be reinforced through local-level initiatives financed or subsidized by the central government. Construction and staffing of more community health centers, township health centers, county hospitals and village clinics will be a clear focus of infrastructure development in rural and urban areas. As a part of this objective, incentives for good doctors to practice in and remain at these health centers are included in the plan. It is hoped that an increased reliance on the  »gatekeeper » function of primary care providers will help assuage overcrowding of city hospitals, encourage preventive services and improve disease prevention and control. Public Health ServicesThe reform plan also proposes government funding of public health services of at least 15 renminbi per capita in 2009 and 20 renminbi in 2010–22 billion renminbi per year in total, according to a recent World Bank report. Minister of Health Zhu Chen has laid out several public health measures, including the establishment of health archives for all citizens; provision of screening for major diseases for elderly people, women and children; management of chronic, non-communicable diseases; health education; an expanded program of immunization for 15 vaccine-preventable diseases; prevention and control for major infectious diseases (HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis) and geochemical endemic diseases; and in-hospital delivery for all pregnant women. Public Hospitals One of the more contentious elements of the reform package comes in the hospital sector. The plan calls for the launch of a pilot program that will increase investment and restructure the hospital management system, which currently pits for-profit hospitals against the central planning of management officials. OutlookImproving access and affordability would help blunt criticism of China’s market reforms, which have seen inequalities grow and left many without adequate health care. The decline of the American automakers took decades, but one massive misstep lies at the core of what happened more recently. GM and its Detroit brethren missed a seismic green wave that swept the business world and society, a rising tide of real environmental challenges and growing public concern about those challenges. When GM was hit by a deadly combination of global resource constraints–which drove energy prices to historic highs–and changing consumer preferences, the already-weakened giant was not ready. Indeed, former chief executive officer Rick Wagoner actually recommitted the company to big, energy-inefficient vehicles as late as 2005.The frightening thing now is how many companies–not just automakers–remain overexposed to environmentally driven risks. It already appears that China and India will soon resume their torrid growth, and when the full global economy recovers along with the rising East, the demand for fossil fuels will outstrip supply. Add to that the reality that governments everywhere will make fossil fuels even more expensive through legislation aimed at reducing greenhouse gases. Climate action is now a political and business reality. But how many companies are changing their products and strategies to deal with that fact?The  »new GM » certainly hasn’t done so so far. As recently as last year, vice chairman Bob Lutz, who is now in charge of GM’s communications of all things, called climate change  »a crock of s–t. » Imagine what sort of language he must have used to describe U.S. auto sales for the first eight months of 2008. During that crucial period of high fuel prices, sales at GM, Ford and Chrysler fell a bone-jarring 15% to 25% (year over year). Over that same stretch, Subaru, Honda ( HMC – news – people ) and Nissan ( NSANY – news – people ) actually increased their sales. With gas prices at historic highs and consumers demanding more energy-efficient vehicles, the automakers with greener portfolios performed much better. GM apologists will be tempted to make excuses by blaming the higher costs of producing vehicles in the United States, or even the credit crunch. But higher labor, pension and health care costs affect profitability, not, necessarily, sales. And the deep recession came after those critical eight months. Only by putting those stale excuses aside can GM move forward.What would success look like? GM could learn from other American giants that have proved adept at riding the green wave. Leaders such as Wal-Mart ( WMT – news – people ), General Electric ( GE – news – people ) and DuPont ( DD – news – people ) have realized that  »going green » is now a matter of survival. They’re not scaling back their sustainability efforts because of the current downturn; they’re accelerating them. They’ve realized that environmental strategy doesn’t raise the cost of doing business, as many fear; it actually lowers expenses, reduces risk and drives innovation and sales. GM can also look to its direct competitors to see the benefits of having a longer-range environmental strategy. They surged 24.54% after the opening and climbed to HK$2.03 in the morning session. After fluctuating between HK$1.88 and HK$2.25, the shares closed at HK$1.91, with the transaction volume standing at HK$239 million.The company raised around HK$97.8 million from the IPO by issuing 6 million shares at an average price of HK$1.63. The indicative price range was HK$1.42 to HK$2.06. Taifook Securities Group Ltd<0665> was the sole sponsor. Futong Technology Development Holdings will use 10% of the proceeds from the IPO to launch five branches, one each in five Chinese cities: Kunming, Changsha, Shijiazhuang, Nanning and Harbin. The firm also intends to use 25% of the IPO funds to buy new technological products, 15% to expand three existing service centers and to build another four service centers, 10% to set up six training centers, 30% for potential acquisitions and 10% to replenish working capital. In the first half of this year, the technology firm reaped HK$1.18 billion in operating revenue. The Beijing-headquartered bank said the new branch would provide more support to the privately-owned enterprises in Zhejiang, especially the medium and small-sized enterprises (SMEs). Suivant le calque, il serait à huit milles au Nord 45° Ouest de la même pointe, et, d\’après nos cartes, en le plaçant d\’après son gisement et sa distance relativement à l\’Itacolomi, ainsi qu\’il est dit ci-dessus, il serait à huit milles et demi au Nord 30° Ouest de la pointe Nord-Ouest de Coroa-Grande.
